Dr. Christopher Reid
PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR
A Canadian transplant to Rhode Island, father of two boys and a fan of hockey (Go Habs!) and soccer. When not teaching or in the lab I enjoy running, kayaking, motorcycles, photography, beer, and whisky.
Research Interests: Structure and function of carbohydrates and carbohydrate acting enzymes. How can we leverage these molecules for industrial and biomedical applications?
My interests lie at the interface of chemistry and microbiology, and in particular carbohydrate chemistry and glycoscience. I’m a chemist, biochemist, and analytical chemist depending on the research challenge. I employ this broad training to study biosynthetic pathways and in the development of new antibiotics. Chemistry has opened a wealth of opportunities and experiences for this boy from Northern Ontario.
Jazmeen Hernandez
RESEARCH TECHNICIAN
Jazmeen graduated from Rhode Island College with a B.S. in Biology. Jazmeen joined the Reid lab in September 2021 and is researching the genetic versus chemical inactivation of autolysins.
Ethan Hall
UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT
Ethan is a rising junior in the biolology program at Bryant University Ethan joined the Reid Lab as a student assistant during the spring semester in 2022. This summer he will be investigating changes to the cell wall induced by the chemical probe masarimycin.
JETT DUVAL
UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANT
Jett is a rising junior at Bryant and this is her second summer in the lab. Jett will be investigating differences between genetic and chemical inactivation of autolysins in B. subtilis using metabolic labeling and molecular biology techniques.
Monica Thoma
HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER RESEARCH FELLOW
Monica Thoma is a rising junior at South Kingstown High School, interested in pursuing Biology on the pre-med track after graduation. She has studied the flute for ten years and runs cross country and track. Monica joined the lab in Summer 2021 as a high school fellow and is working on antibiotic relationships in our model organism, Bacillus subtilis.
